Accessible venues to welcome visitors at Budapest’s St. Stephen’s day events

Organisers ensure barrier-free facilities so people with disabilities can enjoy the celebrations fully.

Organisers of Budapest’s St. Stephen’s Day celebrations announced on Monday that a wide range of accessible venues and services will be available to ensure people with disabilities and reduced mobility can participate in the festivities without obstacles.

Facilities include accessible toilets, wheelchair-friendly event sites, and designated fireworks viewing areas. In Retro Tabán, reachable by low-floor trams and buses from Döbrentei tér, a dedicated platform will allow wheelchair users to comfortably watch concerts. The entire area of the Cultural Medley on Szabadság tér, as well as the Street of Hungarian Flavours in and around Várkert Bazár, will be fully accessible.

At the Festival of Crafts in Buda Castle’s civilian quarter, Murad and Granite lifts will help reach the site, with bus lines 16 and 16A stopping near Bécsi kapu and Dísz tér. The Family Adventure Island on Margit-sziget will be accessible from both bridges.

Other fully accessible locations include the Csárda Festival at Vörösmarty tér, Vigadó Piano performances, Panorama Classical in Filozófusok kert, the Free Meadow Festival in Erzsébet tér, the Creative Festival at Millenáris Park, and the entire route of the Városliget Magic Grove festival.

Designated viewing areas and assistance will be available at key events such as the oath-taking ceremony on Kossuth tér, the air show, the open Parliament visit, and the fireworks display. Full details, maps, and accessible facilities are listed on the official website and mobile app.
