Speaking in Rome after meeting Italian counterpart Gennaro Sangiuliano, János Csák, the minister of culture and innovation, said the next few years will see the launch of joint Italian-Hungarian cultural and scientific programs.
Csák noted that the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian Academy in Rome by Kuno Klebelsberg will be celebrated in 2027, referring to the one-time leader of Hungarian education and cultural policy, adding that he and Sangiuliano agreed on the launch of cultural and scientific programs in 2026 and 2027 in connection with both the anniversary of 1956 and the Academy’s establishment. Noting that two Hungarians were awarded the Nobel Prize this year, he also said that Italian-Hungarian scientific cooperation was long-standing, “going way back to the interwar period when Italian and Hungarian scientists worked on the Manhattan Project”. Both countries want to strengthen cultural and scientific cooperation and popularise science, he said, adding that Italians and the Hungarians “punch above their weight” in the world in these areas.
