Expansion of Hungary's M1 motorway to start on September 1

An 80km stretch of the M1, between the M0 junction and the city of Győr, will be expanded to six lanes.

The National Economy Ministry has confirmed that the expansion of Hungary's M1 motorway, which runs from Budapest to the border with Austria, will start on September 1, 2025.

An 80km stretch of the M1, between the M0 junction and the city of Győr, will be expanded to six lanes. A smart lane system, which can redirect traffic to the emergency lane, if necessary, will also be added along the stretch.

A technical modification of the concession contract for the motorway will be made to ensure compliance with European Union regulations.
