After Hungary managed to do so well in the Euro 2016 football championships, hopes were high that the footbal-crazy nation would further boost its fortunes internationally.
However, despite being considered favorites, Hungarian champions Ferencváros have been knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers in the second round by Albanian side Partizani Tirana.
Ferencváros dominated the match from the very beginning and took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to midfielder Zoltán Gera’s penalty.
However, Partizani Tirana was able to come back to draw even thanks to an own goal by Oliver Hüsung just before half-time.
The second half saw no goals from either side which meant the match went into extra-time, then eventually a penalty shoot out to determine the winner, 3-1 in penalties to the Albanian side.
The result means that Hungary are now out of the Champions League in Europe.
