The foreign minister announced that the Hungarian government is donating the municipality of Berehove (Beregszász) HUF 66 million (EUR 177,000) to help the city maintain its water supply.
Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said on Facebook that Ukrainians are being forced to leave their homes due to heavy bombing and cities coming under siege, leading to an increasing number of internal refugees seeking shelter in western Ukraine. “Many of them are now in Transcarpathia, and the county needs help so that they can accommodate all of them,” he added. The donation provided at the request of Zoltán Babják, the city’s mayor, will ensure secure operations of the local waterworks in the near future, Minister Szijjártó said. The minister added that the Hungarian government had decided against sending weapons to Ukraine but was providing all possible humanitarian assistance “to ease the burdens of people in a difficult situation”, he said.
