Government Spokesperson: During the past three years the V4 has acted against illegal migration while showing true European solidarity

“There is full accord among the countries of the V4, including with relation to the fact that what is happening on the European Union’s borders must be stopped," Zoltán Kovács said

Hungary’s government spokesperson has said that during the past three years the countries of the Visegrád Group (V4) have acted against illegal migration while showing true European solidarity.

During an interview on M1 television, Zoltán Kovács said that in evaluation of the meeting between the prime ministers of the Visegrád Group and the Austrian chancellor in Budapest on Thursday, “there is full accord between the countries of the V4, including with relation to the fact that what is happening on the European Union’s borders must be stopped.”

Kovács stressed that in view of the mandate that the government received at the recent parliamentary elections, it is difficult to claim that it isn’t representing the interests and will of the Hungarian people with both the constitutional amendment and the ‘Stop Soros’ legislative package.

He highlighted the fact that in recent years the Hungarian government has introduced measures that react to the changing world and changing conditions, which “are adapted to reality” and which handle the situation that is affecting the country, irrespective of the migration crisis.

Kovács said that in his view the measures introduced during the past three years were steps taken in the right direction and were necessary.

He also spoke about the fact that the amendment of the Criminal Code has closed all loopholes before the organizers of illegal migration. “We must however also concern ourselves with the fact that various organizations are not just promoting immigration illegally, but also legally,” he added.

Finally, Kovács pointed out that the Hungarian government has spent over one billion euros on protecting its borders and stressed that this is just one reason why it is justified to levy taxes on organizations that are actively supporting migration.
