Hungarian Film Week and Film Awards kick off on Feb 26

A total of 114 films were nominated for the Hungarian Film Awards this year, which were eventually whittled down to 59 by the judging panel.

A total of 114 films were nominated for the Hungarian Film Awards, which were eventually whittled down to 59 by the judging panel.

The four-day event will begin next week with a screening of Oscar-winner director István Szabó’s new film, the Final Report.

Films including Hungary’s Oscar entry Those Who Remained (Akik maradtak), Valan, Tall Tales (Apró mesék), Comrade Draculich (Drakulics elvtárs), and Oscar-winning Deák Kristóf’s television film, Captives (Foglyok), will be screened.

The winners will be chosen by members of the Hungarian Film Academy by secret ballot, and the awards ceremony will take place at the Vígszínház on March 5.
