Hungarians do love their food and it comes as no surprise that many follow the traditions surrounding Easter menus.
Easter Sunday dinner has become an extremely important meal over the years, especially if one has been fasting for Lent.
It’s tradition to eat white fish on Good Friday, while on Easter Sunday the main meal becomes the focal point of the day – roast potatoes and vegetables accompanied by meat dishes are usually served.
Hungarians also tend to eat ham served with boiled eggs and horseradish on Easter Sunday, while “kalács” is also served over the Easter weekend.
Chocolate Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies are also a huge part of the traditional food offerings, along with all the celebrations that go along with it.
Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are public holidays in Hungary. On Friday some shops will be closed, on Monday most will be closed, and public transport will be limited. Restaurants, bars and cafes will be open depending on their own timetables.
