Hungary and Ukraine hope to improve ties in 2022

Péter Szijjártó trusted that “2022 will be a better year in terms of Hungary-Ukraine ties than this one was”.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, held phone talks with Dmytro Kuleba, his Ukrainian counterpart, on Monday, with both ministers confirming their wish to improve ties between their countries.

Minister Szijjártó said on Facebook that they trusted that “2022 will be a better year in terms of Hungary-Ukraine ties than this one was”.

Minister Szijjártó said the Hungarian government has worked a lot to ensure energy supplies for the country and increase Hungary’s role in supplies for the region, adding that out of its seven neighbours Hungary now had gas links to six, while “the number of electric links will soon increase”. He noted that in 2020 and 2021, the largest amounts of gas imported by Ukraine from the west had travelled through Hungary, a trend to continue in the first three months of next year, with a total capacity of 700 million cubic metres.
