The Hungarian football team scored a 2-1 victory on Sunday night against World Cup finalist Croatia.

20,000 fans gathered in Budapest's Groupama Aréna to watch the Hungarians triumph over the Croatian team - led by midfielder Luka Modrić, winner of the 2018 Golden Ball.

Although Croatia developed an early lead when Ante Rebić scored in the 13th minute and the guest team dominated most of the game, the Hungarian side was able to equalize through striker Ádám Szalai in the 34th minute and midfielder Máté Pátkai secured the victory with his goal in the 76th minute.

"We put all our heart in the game, but we also needed a bit of luck for this win as the Croatians weren't at their best tonight. All the same, we gave it everything we had so in the end this was a deserved victory," Hungarian team manager Marco Rossi said.

After two games played by both teams, Hungary is currently third in group E, ahead of Croatia on goal difference.
