Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that it is important for Hungary to be able to defend its own interests – both before and after its upcoming general election.
The prime minister made the statement following a closed session of the European Union Consultation Body in the Hungarian parliament on Tuesday. He said that it is in this spirit that Hungary will attend the upcoming European Union summit in Brussels.
In a video message posted on his Facebook page, the prime minister said that the overriding question which must be focused on at the EU summit is immigration.
In light of German chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Poland, the prime minister said that it is clear that the European Union wants to implement new regulations that encourage and support immigration.
“We must block this and we must confront it,” he said, adding that in this context the summit is important, providing the “deciding showdown” in June.
