PM Orbán: high-tech investments are essential to Hungary’s future

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized the strategic importance of high-tech industrial investment at the inauguration of Flextronics’ new NextGen Mobility manufacturing facility on Tuesday, calling the development a model for Hungary’s future economic stability.

Addressing company leaders, local officials, and government representatives, PM Orbán highlighted that Flextronics’ decision to expand in Hungary reflects the strength of the Hungarian workforce. “Why Zalaegerszeg? Because of the people,” he said, adding that the praise applies not only to locals but to “the workers of every factory in Hungary.”

The new plant represents a HUF 35billion investment, of which the government provided 7.8 billion forints in support. The facility will create 210 “high added-value, research-and-development-focused, high-tech” jobs and will supply European markets with “automotive, IT, and battery platforms, and all kinds of electronic devices that an ordinary person doesn’t even know exist.”

PM Orbán described the investment as part of a broader economic philosophy that prioritizes performance, innovation, and well-paid jobs. “When we support investments like this, we are spending the Hungarian people’s money in the best possible way… we have always stood on the side of performance, high added-value jobs, and good investments coming to Hungary.”

He contrasted this with what he called the opposing “classic left-wing position,” arguing that rejecting such investments leads to “unemployment, high taxes, indebtedness, and eventually impoverishment.”

PM Orbán also warned that Europe’s economic prospects are undermined by the ongoing war and by pressures to finance military efforts through higher taxes and long-term debt. “If we spend our money on this, there will never be enough left to develop industry,” he said.

Highlighting regional progress, the prime minister noted that Zala County’s employment rate has risen from 58 to 73 percent in 15 years and that “in the past five years more people have returned to this county than have left it.” Today it is “one of the outstanding centers of Hungarian knowledge, technology, and innovation,” he noted.

PM Orbán closed by assuring investors of long-term stability: “Hungary’s national right-wing government guarantees all this for you in the future as well.” He concluded with his customary message: “Go Hungary, go Hungarians!”
