Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Monday met Ignatius Aphrem II, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, to discuss the resurgence of fighting in Syria and efforts to protect persecuted Christians.
According to MTI, the pair called the situation "extremely worrying" and agreed that local Christian communities were again in serious jeopardy.
PM Orbán pledged Hungary's continued efforts to promote peace and security for persecuted Christians at international forums.
The patriarch thanked Hungary for the continued support provided to Christian communities in need.
The meeting was also attended by Tristan Azbej, the state secretary for aiding persecuted Christians.
