PM Orbán: “National unity and experience are needed to keep Hungary out of the war”

“Hungary needs a government that can defend the country and ensure it stays out of the war.”

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said national unity and experienced leadership are essential for Hungary to remain outside the war in Ukraine, speaking at a campaign rally in Győr following stops in Veszprém and other cities during his nationwide tour.

Addressing supporters in Széchenyi Square, Prime Minister Orbán emphasized that the central stake of the upcoming parliamentary elections is whether Hungary can avoid being drawn into the conflict. “We promised to stay out of the war, and we have delivered,” he said, adding that this objective requires “national unity and experience.”

The Prime Minister outlined the government’s record during what he described as a difficult period shaped by war. He noted that despite external challenges, the government preserved key policies, including pension measures and family support programs. “We did not make pensioners pay the price of the war,” he said, highlighting the introduction of additional pension benefits and continued support for families.

Prime Minister Orbán reiterated that Hungary had provided assistance to Ukrainians at the start of the war, including shelter, employment opportunities, and education. At the same time, he stressed that Hungary would not compromise its own stability. “We have done everything we could to help, but we will not destroy our country for someone else’s war,” he stated.

He also warned against political pressure and influence. According to Prime Minister Orbán, “Ukrainian intelligence services are active in Hungary,” and he claimed that such efforts are aimed at shaping the outcome of the elections. He rejected any such influence, saying: “We will decide what kind of government Hungary has.”

Returning to the election, Prime Minister Orbán argued that leadership experience is critical in the current geopolitical environment. “This is not a time for experimentation,” he said. “We need a government that can protect Hungary and keep it out of the war.”

He concluded by calling on voters to support a national government capable of maintaining economic stability, protecting families, and ensuring that Hungary remains on a path of peace.
