Ticket inspectors may soon be fitted with body cams to help tackle violent and offensive behavior from fare dodgers.
MAV-START Co. tested the new body cameras on 25 volunteer conductors last month, to determine whether the project warrants a national roll-out.
Conductors are often subjected to verbal insults and physical attacks during their work, 53 victims have been subjected to an attack this year. It is hoped that the new camera system will deter these attacks or provide valuable evidence for police to prosecute offenders.
The cameras will not only be used to deter abuse but are also an effective tool to help protect passengers and their belongings.
