Budapest airport breaks record with more than 16 million passengers in 2019

The operator attributed the record figures to Budapest’s booming tourism industry, the airport’s expanding network of flights and the arrival of new carriers.

Passenger numbers at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport have surpassed a record 16 million, the airport’s operator has announced.

According to MTI, the airport’s passenger numbers had already matched last year’s record 14.9 million people by the end of November, with this year’s passenger growth again exceeding the European average.

The operator attributed the record figures to Budapest’s booming tourism industry, the airport’s expanding network of flights and the arrival of new carriers.

The number of destinations directly accessible from Liszt Ferenc International has grown by 16 percent this year, with passengers having the option of choosing from almost 200 different flight routes.

Budapest Airport said it intends to carry on with its infrastructure and technological upgrades to the airport in 2020 with a view to providing the highest quality service to passengers.
