Operational Group: Cooperation from media is crucial at this time

“Every minute counts,” said Tibor Lakatos at the press conference, where he asked media outlets to cooperate for the health and safety of Hungarian citizens.

At a press conference this afternoon, the Coronavirus Operational Group announced that there are three more confirmed coronavirus cases in Hungary; all of them are being treated in a hospital and are in good condition.

Colonel Tibor Lakatos, the leader of the Operational Group, called on Hungarian citizens to pay more attention to the elderly, who have the highest risk of contracting the virus and suffering complications. He also recommended that senior citizens stay at home and everyone avoid crowded places and events.

To prevent further spread of the disease, Colonel Lakatos said that due to the increasing number of cases, police are now also involved in epidemiological investigations. He asked the press to cooperate with the Operational Group and help spread information, news and videos released by the government.

Lakatos pointed out that there are still only isolated cases in Hungary, and that now “the main task is to prevent the formation of focal points.”

Hungary’s stronger border control has already resulted in some 11,400 checks of Hungarian citizens and resulted in compulsory home quarantine in 166 cases. Meanwhile, confirmed cases of infection are on the rise in neighboring countries. Austria has 302 confirmed cases; Czech Republic, 117; Croatia, 19; Slovakia, 6, Slovenia, 89; Serbia, 19; and Poland, 58.
