A flag-raising ceremony was held in Kossuth Lajos square in front of Parliament on Saturday to celebrate Hungary's national day.

The Hungarian national holiday is held on August 20 each year and is also the day to commemorate Saint Stephen, the founding king of Hungary.

The flag was raised in the presence of President János Áder, as the ceremonial guards of the Hungarian defense forces played the national anthem.

The ceremony was also attended by: László Kövér; Speaker of the House, István Simicskó, minister of defense, Tibor Benkő, chief of defense, György Bakondi, chief security advisor to the prime minister, representatives of a number of government and state agencies, members of the diplomatic corps and their families; and hundreds of members of the public.

The central military orchestra and the national ceremonial cavalry unit were also present at the event.
