An online petition has been established to ‘rescue’ the Liget Project, a plan already under way to transform the capital’s City Park into a museum quarter.

The petition, so far signed by some 60,000 people, objects to a Metropolitan Council proposal on tightening the park’s building regulations which would stop the bulk of the project in its tracks.

László Szabó, a resident of Nagykanizsa, in western Hungary, organized the signature drive last October. The petition can be signed here. Meanwhile, the city council has canvassed residents for their feedback at varosrendezes@budapest.hu.
