A rare white truffle weighing 1,040 grams has been found in Baranya County, the largest truffle of its kind ever found in Hungary.
The farm ministry’s press department said the previous record was 600 grams, set in 2016. Both truffles were found by mushroom hunters working for the local NEFAG Forestry Company.
In 2018, an exceptionally good year brought about a hot summer and perfect conditions for white truffles. Several records have been set and prices dropped thanks to the abundance of truffles found in Italy.
The 600 gram white truffle found in 2016 has been freeze-fried and is on display at the Great Market Hall in Budapest.
