Ambassador Bell: The US should not criticize Hungary's immigration policies

We have not seen such a serious migration crisis since the Second World War, Ambassador Bell said

Hungary has every right to protect its borders and the United States should not criticize its immigration policies, according to the US Ambassador to Hungary, Colleen Bell.

Hungary, as the external protector of the Schengen Area, was in a very difficult situation last year when so many immigrants crossed the borders; we have not seen such a serious migration crisis since the Second World War, Ambassador Bell told news channel ATV.

Hungary was right when it decided to defend its southern border, which is also the external border of the Schengen zone, she explained. The ambassador added that the Hungarian measures meet both humanitarian and security requirements, thus the Hungarian government should not be criticized in this respect.

During the interview, the ambassador also confirmed that she had tendered her resignation and is likely to move on in early 2017, after the appointment of the new administration.
