Bóka: Rule of law in Poland is being abandoned at 'full speed'

Minister Bóka said right-wing opposition Law and Justice (PiS) lawmakers briefed him in Warsaw, adding that "this scenario now being implemented in Poland is planned for Hungary".

EU Affairs Minister János Bóka said the rule of law in Poland is being abandoned and the destruction of the government's political opponents is happening "at full speed". He said in a video on Facebook on Monday that the European People's Party was supporting the process.

Minister Bóka said right-wing opposition Law and Justice (PiS) lawmakers briefed him in Warsaw, adding that "this scenario now being implemented in Poland is planned for Hungary".

The EPP, he insisted, had selected the country's leader and was hobbling his political opponents through legal, political and financial means.

By enacting "Brussels' wish list" and handing over "a little sovereignty", the leader was given "a free hand to deal with political opponents", he added.

Any EU member state, not just Hungary and Poland, was susceptible to similar manoeuvres "unless there is a change in Brussels", Minister Bóka declared.
