Chief of Staff Colonel General Gábor Böröndi said cooperation with NATO and other allies is crucial for the Hungarian Defense Forces amid "the new security situation".
After inspecting the Saber Guardian 2025 international exercise at a shooting range near Veszprem, in western Hungary, on Monday, Böröndi told a press conference that the Saber Guardian 2025 exercise involves American, Spanish and Hungarian troops coordinating ground and air operations, calling it a good example of NATO and other international partnerships.
The exercise, which runs from June 6 to 24, devotes special attention to fire support, stopping the enemy and executing counterattacks, the chief of staff said. It involves 800 Hungarian, 1,200 American and some 600 Spanish soldiers, he added.
The Hungarian contingent is contributing advanced equipment and capabilities to the joint operations, including self-propelled artillery systems, chemical defense units, anti-tank and air defense subunits, as well as helicopter and reconnaissance units, he said.
The exercise is being led on Hungary's part by the Hungarian Defense Forces Joint Forces Operational Command.
