Budapest mayor collects candidacy signatures in record time

Mayor Tarlós’s team will present the signatures at the National Electoral Office today, making him the first official candidate for the October 13th election.

Mayor István Tarlós's Budapest election campaign is off to a good start after his team collected two and a half times the required number of signatures in just a few hours.

The required number of signatures for mayoral candidates differs from district to district, but in Budapest 10,000 signatures are required.

Prior to becoming the mayor of Budapest, Tarlós was the mayor of the capital’s 3rd district from 1990 to 2006. He has a degree in civil engineering and is married with three children.

Tarlós’s team will present the signatures at the National Electoral Office today, making him the first official candidate for the October 13th election.
