Budapest’s iconic Chain Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from Wednesday until the completion of its renovation in 2023.

The Budapest transport center BKK said the bridge will also be closed to car traffic from mid-June. Bus services over the bridge will be free of charge between Clark Ádám Square and Széchenyi István Square.

The bridge is planned to be reopened for vehicles in December 2022 and the entire revamp is scheduled to be completed in August 2023. During the upcoming weekend, from March 13 to March 15, the bridge will be reserved for pedestrian crossings only.
