Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller reported today that the number of those infected with the coronavirus has risen to 1,572. Unfortunately, the number of deaths related to the disease has also risen to 134.
Müller said the deceased were typically elderly with chronic illnesses, adding that the number of people who have recovered is much higher than the number of those who have died.
So far, more than 37,000 tests have been performed in designated laboratories. A national audit has been ordered and initiated to protect high-risk seniors. The results are expected this week.
The aim of the national audit is to assess how well healthcare institutions are prepared in terms of equipment, nursing technology, training and procedures. If a deficiency is identified, the necessary steps will be taken.
Müller also pointed out that there would be an opportunity for consultation during the inspections. She asked all institutions to cooperate and thanked healthcare workers and her colleagues for their support.
