Coronavirus Update: Record number of volunteers have applied to help fight the coronavirus

Almost 900 volunteers applied for the call within two days, most of them medical, pharmacist and dental students, but also a significant number of graduate doctors and health professionals.

Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Capacities, has thanked the record number of nearly 900 volunteers who have applied for help on the National Health Care Service Center's recruiting site over the past two days.

In an open letter on Monday, Kásler addressed, among others, students in secondary or higher education, residents and medical candidates, and health professionals working in non-publicly funded outpatient or inpatient settings.

The minister asked health professionals to volunteer and help their colleagues working in emergency and primary care, and to replace their over 65 colleagues, who were at high risk of catching the coronavirus, so they were placed in a position where they could not meet the patient directly.

Almost 900 volunteers applied for the call within two days, most of them medical, pharmacist and dental students, but also a significant number of graduate doctors and health professionals. Volunteers will perform administrative and patient care tasks and assist with epidemiological sampling.
