Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller said today that the number of infections in Hungary is increasing. Some of those infected are in good health, but many have been hospitalized. Eleven people have died in the past 24 hours, typically elderly patients with chronic underlying conditions.
“The situation justifies not relaxing the rules,” Müller said. “The number of deaths is rising, they are typically elderly people. We can say for sure that the virus is especially dangerous for the elderly,” she added.
Müller also visited the Metropolitan Municipality Old People’s Home in Pest yesterday to assess the situation for herself. So far, 151 people have been infected with the coronavirus and seven have died.
The Chief Medical Officer said that this emergency situation requires extraordinary measures, which is why the entire staff force were assigned training. Personal protective equipment has been provided and lessons on how to disinfect properly were provided.
Inspections in nursing homes across the country have now been ordered and if any issues are found, immediate action will be taken.
