At today’s Operational Group press conference, Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller said that with the current number of 1,763 confirmed coronavirus cases and rising, Hungary is entering the stage of mass disease.
“The number of confirmed cases stands at 1,763, and the number of deaths rose to 156 this morning,” Müller said. “The spread of the disease is accelerating slowly; we are entering the stage of mass disease.”
Müller also pointed out that the epidemic curve is as flat as possible, but shows a rising trend day-by-day. “By preparing for the worst-case scenario, we need to free up beds where severely infected patients can be treated,” she said.
Regarding elderly care homes, the Chief Medical Officer said that all institutions are being inspected, starting with the larger elderly homes; and large quantities of personal protective equipment is also being distributed.
