Hungary’s Finance Minister has said digitalization is key to the country’s success and international competitiveness.

Following a meeting of the National Competitiveness Council on Tuesday, Mihály Varga said further strengthening Hungary‘s competitiveness depends on digitalization.

The minister urged the creation of a quantifiable, straightforward system of goals, with central coordination. He also pressed for cooperation with economic players.

Minister Varga said Public administration needs digitalization just as much as SMEs, and developing digital skills needs to be given due attention in education.

The Council believes the restructuring of vocational and continuing education, laborers with broad skill sets and the strengthening of innovative companies are also conditions for further development. The Council welcomed the latest GDP data showing Hungary’s economy expanded at a clip three times the EU average, the minister said.
