The National Meteorological Service has announced that drought is affecting large parts of Hungary, noting that droughts are becoming more frequent, with hotter summers and more intensive heat waves. Last year was also dry in Hungary and the drought continued in 2022, the service said. The situation is worse in central parts of the Great Plain and areas east of the River Tisza. Occasional droughts are part of Hungary’s climate, but “in recent decades summers have become significantly hotter and heat waves more frequent and more intensive…” the Meteorological Service said.
