Social media platform Facebook has banned the advertising accounts of Hungarian conservative media group Mediaworks Zrt’s brands without explanation, the company said in a statement.
“Our official inquiry as for the reason of the ban resulted in no concrete reply,” Mediaworks content development director Zsolt Pauska wrote. “In light of recent reports about Facebook’s plans it is obvious that the decision of the American company is based on political and ideological reasons.”
According to Rmx.news, in its statement Mediaworks encouraged its users to look for their news from the original sources.
Mediaworks was established in 2014 when it bought the Hungarian media holdings of Swiss Ringier and Germany’s Axel Springer, becoming the country’s largest media group, the owner of some 100 brands, including national, regional and local newspapers, magazines and mostly sports and lifestyle sites.
