Fidesz maintains lead in new Nézőpont poll

A total of 49% of respondents said they found Prime Minister Viktor Orbán the most suitable person for the post.

The Nézőpont Institute said on Tuesday that the Fidesz-Christian Democrats have maintained their support, with 47% of decided voters favoring the ruling alliance, while the opposition Tisza Party has increased its backing to 29% since the European parliamentary elections in June. A total of 49% of respondents said they found Prime Minister Viktor Orbán the most suitable person for the post, while Tisza leader Péter Magyar had a 19% favourability rating. If general elections were held now, the leftist Democratic Coalition would garner 8% of the vote (unchanged since the EP elections) and radical Our Homeland 9% ( up 2 percentage points), the think-tank said. The satirical Two-Tailed Dog party had 5% (up 1 percentage point), while the other small parties, which garnered a combined 7% of the votes in June, would now be supported by a mere 2%, Nézőpont said. The phone survey was conducted between July 15 and 17, with a representative sample of 1,000 voting-age adults.
