FINA's president calls 2017 World Championships in Budapest best in history of event

FINA's president has called the 2017 World Aquatics Championships organized in Budapest and Balatonfüred the best championships in the history of the event.

Julio Maglione congratulated Hungary on the success of the event, which has been the biggest international sporting event hosted by the nation, at the closing ceremony on Sunday.

Maglione said the “FINA family” enjoyed an “unforgettable” experience over the past two weeks. Maglione added that the event had contributed a great deal to the development of aquatics sports.

Miklós Seszták, minister for National Development, and the head of the organizing committee, said the last 17 days had been about “unity, mutual respect and celebrating sports”.

The minister expressed his gratitude to FINA, the championships’ organizers and volunteers who helped out during the event without whom he said Hungary could not have successfully organized the event.
