Hungarian authorities have confirmed that five Syrian migrants attempted to enter Hungary by sailing up the River Tisza in an inflatable dinghy.

According to MTI, Hungarian police apprehended three of the illegal migrants but are still looking for two others in the area.

The Csongrád County police department said the rubber dinghy, sailing from the Serbian side towards Hungary, was spotted on the radar of an army boat patrolling the river at 10.30pm on Friday.

The patrolmen found the dinghy stuck in driftwood a few meters from the Hungarian side, with two men inside. Three had tried to jump ashore but fell into the water. One of them was clinging to driftwood and was rescued by the patrolmen, but a search is still underway for two migrants.
