Foreign Minister hopes for harmony between Belgian and Hungarian EU presidencies

Minister Szijjártó said both Hungary and Flanders were “supporters of rationalistic politics, promotion of free trade, and the crucial importance of protecting Europe’s external borders”.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on a visit to Belgium on Wednesday, noted similarities between the politics of Hungary’s government and of Flanders, Belgium’s strongest region. In a Facebook post, Minister Szijjártó said both Hungary and Flanders were “supporters of rationalistic politics, promotion of free trade, and the crucial importance of protecting Europe’s external borders”. They also agree that “there is no safe and efficient energy supply without nuclear energy,” he added. “All that gives us good hopes in terms of harmonising the consecutive Belgian and Hungarian EU presidencies,” Minister Szijjártó said. He also noted a record Hungarian-Flemish trade turnover last year, which he said could even be surpassed next year.
