Foreign Minister underscores Hungary's close ties with Slovenia

The largest Hungarian companies continue to increase their share in Slovenian markets.

The foreign minister said close ties between the Slovenian and Hungarian economies have helped Hungary relaunch its economy swiftly after the coronavirus pandemic.

Following a meeting with Zdravko Počivalšek, the Slovenian minister of economic development and technology in Maribor, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the largest Hungarian companies continue to increase their share in Slovenian markets. After recent purchases of companies, Hungarian OTP has recently become the largest player in the Slovenian banking sector, and petrol and gas company MOL came to second place among fuel providers, with 173 MOL pumps operating in the country, he said. Slovenia and Hungary fund a joint development program for the adjoining Prekmurje and Rábavidék regions in northeast Slovenia and southwest Hungary, which will further boost mutual ties, he said.
