Foreign Minister voices concern over renewed tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia

The foreign minister said renewed tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia with regard to deliveries of humanitarian aid was “unsettling” in a post on Facebook on Saturday.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said reports of renewed tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia with regard to deliveries of humanitarian aid were “unsettling” in a post on Facebook on Saturday. “Hungary stands on the side of peace and urges an end to the suffering of people who have lived through a long war. I informed both of my counterparts, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Azeri foreign minister, and Ararat Mirzoyan, the Armenian foreign minister, by phone on that position yesterday evening,” he said. “Hungary will always take a position in support of peaceful resolution, territorial integrity and respect for sovereignty. We welcomed the peace agreement and hope that its implementation will save many, many people from suffering,” he added. Minister Szijjártó acknowledged the roles of international organisations, especially the Red Cross, in assisting in the situation.
