The unemployment rate is under two percent in several Hungarian counties, and full employment in an economic sense has already been achieved, the government has announced.
According to Magyar Idők, the unemployment rate was under two percent in Vas County, Győr-Sopron County and Veszprém County, all in western Hungary, in the last quarter of 2016 and it was under 3-4 percent in several other counties. Even in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, in the economically depressed north-east, it was below 10 percent.
The expansion of the labor market has been outstanding and the employment rate increased in the 20-64 age group faster in Hungary than in any other of the 28 European Union member states last year.
Hungary will most certainly be able to meet its promise to the EU to achieve 75 percent employment rate in the 20-64 age group by 2020, the ministry for National Economy said. Last year, 71.5 percent of the people in this age group held jobs.
In 2010, Hungary had among the lowest employment figures in the EU and it has since climbed to the top group.
