Government provides funding for student jobs this summer

The Finance Ministry has earmarked 3 billion HUF (9.4 million EUR) for the summer-focused program

The Hungarian government is to provide support for students this summer.

The Finance Ministry announced that it will provide funds to municipalities and municipally-owned companies employing students aged between 16 and 25 years.

The ministry has earmarked 3 billion HUF (9.4 million EUR) for the summer-focused program.

Mihály Varga, minister of Finance, said the program will differ slightly from last year and offer funding to agricultural and catering businesses employing students, in order to meet the strong workforce demand in those sectors.

According to MTI, the program is expected to support the employment of about 25-30,000 students this summer.

The ministry confirmed that the funding will fully cover student wages in the program. In the case of farm and catering businesses, 75 percent of student wages and the related social contribution tax is refunded to the employer.
