Gergely Gulyás, Head of the Prime Minister's Office, said the Hungarian government is providing HUF 23 billion (EUR 63.9m) towards the cost of renovating the institutions of the Premonstratensian Order in Hungary.
At the ground-breaking ceremony of a new abbey in Gödöllő, near Budapest, which is also receiving a HUF 3.5 billion government grant, Gulyás said the Premonstratensians were an important part of Hungarian history, adding that the order’s thirteen friars and six nuns oversaw several schools across the country which were pillars of local communities. “Where a church is built, people believe in God and that each person has a special value; where a church is built, a community develops,” he said. All communities that build values can rely on the government, Gulyás said, adding that it was important the church organisations “are provided the means necessary to successfully fulfil their mission”.
