Gulyás: Bar and restaurant terraces can reopen on Saturday

Gergely Gulyás said Hungary will surpass 3.5 million vaccinated people tomorrow, so terraces can reopen on Saturday.

Speaking at the regular Government Info press conference on Thursday, Gergely Gulyás, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, confirmed that all signs point in the right direction so bar and restaurant terraces will be able to reopen on Saturday.

The minister’s announcement, however, shouldn’t come as a surprise as the government made it clear last week that once Hungary surpassed 3.5 million vaccinated people, the gradual reopening will continue.

Bars and restaurants will have to close at 9:30 p.m., Gulyás said, while the nighttime curfew will begin at 11 p.m.

Answering questions from the press, Minister Gulyás said that everybody who signs up for the vaccine today will probably get the shot within two weeks. “Next week we could cross the 4-4.5 million threshold in terms of vaccination,” Gulyás added.
