The Győr women’s handball team won its third consecutive Champions’ League on Sunday, narrowly beating challenger Rostov-Don 25:24 in the final four.
After finishing the first half with a reassuring 15-11 lead, Győr saw its advantage gradually melt and their Norwegian goalkeeper, Kari Aalvik Grimsbø had to avert a last-second shot to keep the team’s ultimately winning one-goal lead.
Rarely one to miss such a success in Hungarian sports, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on his Facebook page “Congratulations to the Queens of Handball! The girls of Győr have done it again!”
