Hungarian Jews honored in Israel

209 members of the underground Zionist youth movements that operated during the second world war in Hungary have been honored.

Hungarian Jews who saved their fellow Jews in Hungary during the Holocaust have been honored in Israel.

At a ceremony at the Hazorea kibbutz, in northern Israel, on Tuesday evening, 209 members of the underground Zionist youth movements that operated during the second world war in Hungary were honored, while family members took over posthumous awards. So far, about 580 people have received the award, 127 of whom emigrated to Israel from Hungary. Hungarian Ambassador to Tel Aviv Levente Benkő said the award drew attention to the heroism of “those who risked their own lives to save others in this dark period of history”.
