Hungarian lawmakers submit draft legislation to support Olympic bid

Hungary can manage the fast, efficient and successful preparation and hosting of the Olympics

Hungarian lawmakers have submitted draft legislation to support Budapest's bid for the 2024 Olympics, it has been announced.

The draft law submitted on Monday by members of the ruling Fidesz party aims to "show that Hungary is capable of the fast, efficient and successful preparation and hosting" of the Olympics.

Provisions include streamlining procedures to issue guarantees required by the International Olympic Committee, as well as demonstrating long-term plans for hosting the games.

Disappointingly, opposition parties are split in supporting the bid, despite that the initiative is seen as a positive step in the right direction by the people of Hungary.

Budapest is competing against Paris, Rome and Los Angeles. The IOC will choose the host in September 2017.
