Hungarian shoemaker, Attila Kovács has won four gold medals and a special prize for his footwear.
The Hungarian led the pack at the Wiesbaden competition, which is organized every three years and is one of the most prestigious contests of the profession.
Shoe-making has been a tradition in Attila Kovács’s family for generations. The family are renowned for making special footwear from the most extraordinary ingredients in Miskolc.
“I would like men's shoes to be more colorful, more exciting,” he said. “If we men want a lady walking alongside us to always be elegant and well-groomed, then I think women are the same, and shoes are the essential accessories of a gentleman,” he added.
The specialty of this competition means that the shoemaker must master everything by themselves. “However, in the work-room the work is divided into different parts and professions, during the contest I have to be the designer, the vamp-maker and the cobbler, too,” he added.
