Hungarians can now name their child after Daenerys from GoT

The recently published Linguistics Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences list now includes Daenerys – or rather its Hungarian phonetic transcription, Denerisz

As of May 1st, it is legal in Hungary to name a baby girl after Daenerys Targaryen, the ash-blonde Mother of Dragons from the Game of Thrones TV show.

Hungary has a relatively strict naming law, with a list of approved names published annually by the Linguistics Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences – the ultimate authority on names and spelling in general.

The recently published list now includes Daenerys – or rather its Hungarian phonetic transcription, Denerisz.

Although naming a child falls under strict guildelines in Hungary, the Linguistics Institute does allow individual requests that are judged by a set of rules and approved or rejected.
