This year's MTV European Music Awards will take place virtually from four iconic locations in London and Budapest. The awards honor artists and music in pop culture.
Alexandra Szentkirályi, a government spokeswoman, said in a video from the Hungarian Tourism Agency that this is the first time Hungary will co-host the awards. She stated that this is a huge opportunity for Hungary and for Budapest noting that this is one of the largest and most followed award ceremonies in pop culture.
The Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation submitted an application for the event in 2019 and the Hungarian government will provide support through the Tourism Agency. Zoltán Guller, the head of the agency noted that this a great opportunity to show that Budapest is the best destination in the region.
The awards will feature 16 main categories and 29 best local categories that are open for voting. Last year’s winner of Best Hungarian Act was Viktor Király.
The show will be available to nearly one billion people in 200 countries on television and via the internet on November 8.
