The Foreign Minister has called for Serbia and Montenegro’s accession procedure into the European Union to be speeded up.
Speaking at a podium discussion of the Warsaw Security Forum, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the two countries are “basically” ready to join the bloc, which is also in the EU’s political, economic and security interest.
The Minister said the EU needs a “success story”, and a speedy accession would be “good news” in today’s “rather turbulent” economic and political climate. “We disagree with the European Commission’s stance that no enlargement should be undertaken until 2025,” he said.
