Hungary completely free of bird flu

Hungary can now restart exporting poultry to countries outside of the European Union

Hungary has announced that it is now completely clear and free of bird flu, according to the guidelines of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

According to Hungary's farm ministry, Hungary can now restart exporting to countries outside of the European Union.

MTI reports that poultry will be fed and given water, and feed will be stored in closed spaces to prevent a recurrence of the disease.

Hungary became affected by the epidemic when the presence of the lethal H5N8 virus strain was detected at 240 Hungarian farms between November last year and April 21, 2017. More than 3.2 million birds were culled in eight counties across the country.
